Only 30% of my games have any steam_appid.txt file anywhere in the installation. Ok here is some evidence you mht be able to check. Neither Team Fortress 2 nor DOTA 2 (free games) have any steam_appid.txt (on Linux at least). I can give you one or two windows games without steam
